Eulogy - Qistina

Being born in this innocent world on the eve of 25th Oct. '86, by my mother, was a joy to my family because I was the first and only daughter at that time. I was brought up in a very happy family, all of us were closely attached to one another. We are best friends. Mak, you are the best. You are my everything mummy. I will definitely miss you tons. Daddy or sometimes I call Bapak, I'm sorry for everything. I wished we could spend more time together. I know we didnt talk much. I missed being your daddy's little girl Pa. 17/10/07 - remember that date dad. I love you too. Siblings - love, love, love. Along, you will hell miss teasing me, updating my resume, going to concerts and get crazy together! Its ok, you have the kiddies to do so. Angah, I'm sorry. I wished we could be like before. Diyana, Asrar, Sofia, Khaleef, this world is more than what you are seeing now. There's still lots of things that you will learn. Be good. No one will play with your hair, read bedtime stories, feed you, go swimming together, but it's okay. Kak Tina @ Aunty Na will not be able to do that for the rest of my life. Mak Cah not to forget, we've been through alot together. We cried and laughed together. LOVE.

To others,
Everytime everyone turns their back on me, when my own close circle of friends betray me, I nevertheless am strong in going through all hardships. I have no intentions of showing my weakness and sorrow to those who have misused my trust. Since I am so capable of putting trust towards those who I love, I am easily hurt in the process. As concrete I may seem on the outside, internally I am fragile at heart. For someone I dearly have affection to, I will sacrifice everything to make him or her happy, even if me at times in constant pain.

Amongst the goodness in me, I also bear weaknesses to my name. Although these weaknesses however underweigh my utter goodness, it may seem appropriate to mention. I for one thing, continue to engage in unfulfiling acts that deem to indirectly against the words of my father. As hard as I try not to, I however am unconscious of me doing so. If only I could redemp all my past actions to fit that of his wishes, I would trade everything. On terms of relationships, I am the partner who place my other half's needs in against my own and as a consequence become a victim of him to take me for granted.

Family, friends, and people who know me..forgive me for everything I've done, I've said..directly or indirectly. You know I LOVE YOU. I'm sure each of you know.

*Eulogy Speech by Soleha*

What can I say about myself? I am a student and a daughter of my parents and also a friend of everyone who loved me. I am just an ordinary person like others, who will leave this world.

I am called to share about myself since a month ago but I don’t know why, it is just today I started to do so. I still remember, when I was young, I used to move from one school to another school. Since I am the youngest in my family, I have to follow my parents each time they had to transfer to other places. I used once threaten my parents to stop my school if we had to move again and again. “Mak” and “abah”, I wanted to apologize for my behavior. At that age, it was hard for me to adapt with new environment. I didn’t mean to threat you. I am really sorry for that.

To my one and only sister, be strong!!! Take a good care of your family and your health. Don’t forget to take all your medicines. Don’t eat too much spicy meal. Promise me yeah..?? It can affect your health. Help me also to remind “mak” about her appointment.

To my “moody” bro, thanks for your support and advice in my study. Thanks for your money as well..hehe.. If you can, please persuade “abah” to make his check up with doctor. Sometimes I really worry about his health.

My cute nieces, Adriana and Dania, you guys cheer up our family. Be a good daughter to your parents and good luck for your future undertakings. Don’t forget our theme song, “senyum seindah suria..lalala..”

To everyone that I loved, this is not the moment for you to shed out tears but we should be thankful that we were given chance to be together. Here, I just wanted to share my favorite quotation from Leonardo Da Vinci,

While I thought I
was learning to live,
I have been learning
how to die.

BOSNIA(Nasra)

Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in South-eastern Europe, bordering the Adriatic Sea and Croatia. Its terrain is mountainous. The country has hot summers and cold winters; areas of high elevation have short, cool summers and long, severe winters; mild, rainy winters along coast
It geographic location has placed the region squarely in the midst of European political power struggles for hundreds of years. Racial divisions, made worse by ever-changing borders and religious rivalries: Muslim, Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodoxy. While Yugoslavia kept the peace under Marshall Tito (and for a time after his death, as well) the fall of Communism signaled the beginning of the end for the tenuous unity of the area. In 1992, Bosnia and Herzegovina voted for independence, but the military (of Yugoslavia and mostly Serb) refused to recognize this move and began the siege of Sarajevo. Horrific episodes of so-called "ethnic cleansing" began as the Serbs attempted to clear Bosnia of Muslims and Croats. In 1995, a peace accord was finally signed dividing the region into a Serb republic and a Muslim-Croat federation, which would be governed under the same president and legislature. UN peacekeeping has been in the area since 1995.
Bosnia and Herzegovina was a multi-ethnic society. Before the civil war the Serbs made up 40% of the country, the Muslims 38% and the Croats 22%. During the war ethnic cleansing occurred in the country and the current composition of the country is not known. Population (July 2002 est.): 3,964,388 (note: all data dealing with population are subject to considerable error because of the dislocations caused by military action and ethnic cleansing).
Population growth rate (2002 est.): 0.76%.
Ethnic groups: Bosniak 48.3%, Serb 34.0%, Croat 15.4%, others 2.3%. (Source: UNDP Human Development Report 2002--Bosnia-Herzegovina)
Religions: Muslim (40%); Orthodox (31%); Catholic (15%); Protestant (4%); other (10%).
Languages: Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian (formerly "Serbo-Croatian").
Education: Mandatory 8 years of primary school, 4 years in secondary school, and 4 years in universities and academies. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are 407 primary schools with 250,000 students, 171 secondary schools with 80,000 students, 6 universities in the major cities (Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka, Tuzla, and Bihac) and 6 academies (4 pedagogic and 2 art academies).
Education: Adult literacy rate--male 94.1%, female 78.0%.
Health: Infant mortality rate--23.53 deaths/1,000. Life expectancy--male 71.0, female 75.0.

IRAN (Nasra)

Iran known as Persia, which included parts of Iraq, Iran has a long, creative and glorious history. Unlike many other Middle Eastern countries, Iran managed to remain independent throughout much of its history. Today it has a population of about 70 million persons. Principle ethnic groups are Persian 51%, Azeri 24%, Gilaki and Mazandarani 8%, Kurd 7% and Arab 3%. Iran is a Muslim country, with 89% Shi'a and 10% Sunni Muslims. The remaining 1% belongs to Jewish, Bahai and Zoroastrian faiths. The Bahai and Zoroastrian faiths originated in Iran. Major Languages of Iran are Persian (Fars) and Persian dialects 58%, Turkic and Turkic dialects 26%, Kurdish 9%, Luri 2%, Baluchi 1%, Arabic 1%, Turkish 1%. Since 1979, Iran is an Islamic Republic.Iran is situated east of Iraq, beyond the Tigris River, Shatt Al-Arab waterway and east of the Persian Gulf, across from Saudi Arabia. To the north, it borders on former Soviet Central Asian countries including Armenia Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea. It also borders on Afghanistan and Pakistan in the east, and Turkey to the west. 1979 January 16: The Shah leaves Iran, as his new government can't control the situation in the country anymore.
February 1: Khomeini returns to Iran. A period of antagonism starts. Processes against the supporters of the Shah starts, and hundreds are executed. Many demonstrations are held in protest to the new rules, like extreme regulations on women's dress.
March 30: Referendum on the new Iranian constitution is held, where the Islamic republic is chosen.
November: Iranian students storm the US embassy, taking 70 people, the majority Americans, as hostages. 18 are released before the end of November. This conflict would last more than one year, and has more than anything else formed the West's image of the present regime of Iran as an anti-Western one.Iran's Nuclear Program - Toward the end of 2003 Iran's nuclear program came under the scrutiny of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Work on a nuclear reactor to be built by Siemens at Bushehr had begun in the time of the Shah, and was nearing completion in 1979, when the revolution occurred. The Ayatolah Khomeini pronounced the project "unislamic." The Iraqis bombed damaged the Bushehr site during the Iran-Iraq war. However, Iran decided subsequently to renew the program. Nuclear power has fallen out of favor in most countries since the reactor mishap at 3 Mile Island in 1979, and more especially after the Chernobyl disaster in the former Soviet Union. However, Iranians claim that they want to develop nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels, citing pollution concerns as well as eventual depletion. Indeed, Teheran is very polluted primarily because of vehicle and refinery emissions. This is partly due to subsidies of oil prices by the Iranian government. Though it has over 9% of the world's oil reserves and over 16% of the world's gas, Iran has neglected its fossil fuel substrate because foreign companies would not provide spare parts and know-how following the revolution. Wells may have become unusable due to neglect. Iran still has more than enough gas and oil to meet its increasing energy needs though for many years to come.

Umi Khairani & Bosnia (by Qistina)

Bosnia Herzegovina - another country that we should take note on. Bosnia is also like other countries which have conflicts among the ethnic groups. What had happened in Bosnia was so sad, the rape cases, the mass killings, the destruction of Muslim mosques, and many more. Muslims are the majority in that country, yet other groups could simply treat them badly. The Serbs were being very cruel and they demanded greater autonomy. The presenter, Miss Umi Khairani had made her presentation reached and touched the hearts of the audience at the end of it. It was good that she provided extra sources - the books and her voice inflection was great too. She spoke clearly and people understood her points. However, she read the slides too much and to me, she was lack of eye-contact. And even though her voice inflection was good, but she spoke too fast; maybe because she was kind of nervous. Whatever it is, I'm very sure that she had done her best.Good Luck Umi in your future undertakings! =)

Chechnya & Bro Nashrul (by Soleha)

Informative speech curtain was closed by the last presenter in our class which was Bro Nashrul. He was presenting about Republic of Chechnya or known as Chechnya. Chechnya was previously governed under a regional government. However, it is now ruled in a separatist government. Chechnya claims that it has gained independent but the country is actually still under Russia controls. What I mean here is Chechnya depends on Russia in most of their decision making as Chechnya and Russia are interdependent.
The first Chechen War was occurred in 1994 until 1996. It was basically occurred because Russia forces attempted to stop Chechnya from getting their independent. The second Chechen war in 1996 was the second war stuck the Russian government accused Chechnya militant in series of bombing in Russia. Overall, the major issue in Chechnya is between the country itself and Russia and the issue is ongoing until today.

Nashrul.. I think he did quite well. Were you actually nervous Nashrul..?? Because I can see your hand was a little bit shaking. However, it was good as I can understand your presentation. In simple words, I know what you are talking about.. I just wonder, you were supposed to present earlier right? How come you presented it in the last class? I thought your are not going to present at all..hehehe.. Anyhow..congrats and good luck for everything!! Make sure you do well for our conference!!

Analysing on Book review by Nasra

JABIR IBN HAYYAN:

Abu Musa Jabir ibn Hayyan ibn Abdullah was born in Tus, Khorasan. The date of his birth is disputed, but most sources give 721 or 722. He was the son of Hayyan al-Azdi, a pharmacist of the Arabian Azd tribe who emigrated from Yemen to Kufa during the Umayyad Caliphate.
Jabir's father Hayyan had supported the revolting Abbasids against the Umayyads, and was sent by them to the province of Khorasan to gather support for their cause. He was eventually caught by the Ummayads and executed. His family fled back to Yemen, where Jabir grew up and studied the Koran, mathematics and other subjects under a scholar named Harbi al-Himyari. After the Abbasids took power, Jabir went back to Kufa, where he spent most of his career.
In Kufa he became a student of the celebrated Islamic teacher and sixth Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq. It is said that he also studied with the Umayyad prince Khalid Ibn Yazid. He began his career practising medicine, under the patronage of the Barmakid Vizir of Caliph Haroun al-Rashid.

Contributions to chemistry
Jabir is mostly known for his contributions to chemistry. He emphasised systematic experimentation, and did much to free alchemy from superstition and turn it into a science. He is credited with the invention of many types of now-basic chemical laboratory equipment, and with the discovery and description of many now-commonplace chemical substances and processes - such as the hydrochloric and nitric acids, distillation, and crystalization ¬ that have become the foundation of today's chemistry and chemical engineering.
He was a prominent Islamic alchemist, pharmacist, philosopher, astronomer, and physicist. He has also been referred to as "the father of Arab chemistry"
He wrote more than 200 books including 80 books on chemistry such as the Kitab Al-Ahjar ("Book of Stones"). The Books on Balance
The date of his death is given as c.815 by the EncyclopŁˆdia Britannica, but as 808 by other sources.

Allama Iqbal - (Qistina)

I had reviewed a book on a Muslim scholar named Iqbal, titled Iqbal: The Poet Philosopher of Fifteen Century Hijrah by the author, Muhammad Hamid. Allama Iqbal was born in the last quarter of 19th century when western culture and intellectual traditions were having a control over the minds of the people all around him. This period was 20 years after the tragic year, in 1857, whereby the last emperor of the Indian Muslim had been sent to exile and that year was also a great depression for Muslims all over the subcontinent. The effects from the depression, such as Quran was not used as a main source, civil and criminal codes were enforced by the British, and many more were still taking place when the time of Iqbal. Realizing the sad situation, Iqbal later on raised out a slogan “Back to Quran”. Of course, there were so many objections by the West, and also by the people who had already got used with the West styles before Iqbal came. Few of Iqbal’s teachings or main points of arguments were; opposed mysticism, broke all the idols of inferiority complex, Quran as a reference all times, and many more.
After been reading the book, I had personally come out with my own analyses. In my opinion, Allama Iqbal was extremely conscious about the intellectual crisis of Muslim youth whom had been dominated by the Western ways of thinking. If these youths do not realize this problem and adopt any new path because of the lack of understanding of Islam, it would be a disaster not only for them, but also for the whole Muslim Ummah. The problems that had occurred in Iqbal’s time are almost the same with current situation, whereby Muslims do not take Islam is the way of life. As a poet, Iqbal tried to create a taste for knowledge and various academic movements. To me, it was very unfortunately that Iqbal’s efforts remain hidden or have not been highlighted properly most probably due to his field of interest.

Analysis on book review by Soleha

From my analysis about Salman El-Farsi story of life, I believed that everyone was created with “fitrah” (natural instinct) to find out the true in religion. We should be thankful to God as we are born as a Muslim. In contrast, Salman El-Fersi had to seek in order to find out the truth. Salman had converted from Zoroastrian to Christian and finally to Islam, the religion that he was seeking in his life. He never surrendered in seeking knowledge until he found the most satisfied in his heart. In my opinion, Salman was success in meeting Prophet because he never gives up with the difficulties and believed that God was always with him. Once he has found Islam, he devoted all his life towards the religion. I pray may Allah S.W.T make it possible for all of us to benefits from Salman El-Farsi story of life.

“Salman El-Farsi (Salman the Persion), A Short Story of His life by Sayed A.A Razwy

BOOK REVIEW *SOLEHA*

Salman El-Farsi was born around 568 A.D Jiyye, Persia (Iran). His Persian name was Rozeba.. Salman was from a rich and an influential family. He was a brilliant child and exhibited interest in gaining knowledge. Salman was first a Zoroastrians and he used to be a priest in a fire-temple. He began to lose interest as he found many unanswerable questions in his religion.

One day, Salman El-Farsi was asked by his father to handle a business at country-house. During his journey, he found Christians and he then converted to Christians. He was being tortured by his father because of the conversion. With helped of Christians friends, Salman managed to get rid from his father and he went to Syria.

After leaving Jiyye in Persia, Salman lived in several places. He discovered about religious knowledge and he felt Christians was not the religion that he was looking for. It was in Ammuria that he heard for the first time about the new Prophet in Makkah. After several difficulties such as being past from one master to another master, Salman finally managed to meet the Prophet personally. He converted to Islam, the religion that he was searching throughout his life. After Salman got the freedom, he was with the Prophet at all times. He strived towards Islam. After the death of Prophet Muhammad, Salman was appointed by Ali ibn Talib as the governor of Madaen in Iraq. He governed Madaen with the true message and mission of Islam. However, within three months, Salman died in A.D 656, at the age of 88 years old.

Among his contributions in Islam were as the translator of Quran into Persian language, contributed in the battle of Khandaq and in the battle of Badr. May Allah S.W.T blessed Salman El-Farsi’s life.

Philippine & Dexter (by Soleha)

In Philippine, Muslims are the minority. Just like in Thailand, the minority are being discriminated and oppressed economically and socially. Muslims in Philippines are not represented in which their rights are being taken. The thing is that countries that Muslims are the minority, they have always being called “terrorist” after the September 11 incident in America. Conflict in Philippine can also be related to Conspiracy Theory as being discussed in class. Basically, although most Philippines realize everything that is bad happen is because of the government, they always wanted to express it to Abu Sayaf.

One thing in Philippine that I noticed from the TV series that being published in my country, corruptions are everywhere. The rich people always being portrays as the one who owns power the poor people always being oppressed by them.

For the presentation, I don’t think Dexter had done it well. He was nervous because he didn’t prepare that much. Yes..he has strength because he can just speaks. But to be honest, I cannot catch what he wanted us to know about Philippine. Forget to bring pendrive?? Weird reason..he supposed to prepare all things as he already knew that he will be the presenter. But the good thing was he has an attempt to answer audience’s questions although most of the answers went here and there. Overall, I think Dexter should be more prepared. Good luck for everything..!!!

Landmark speech by JOHN F.Kennedy ( By Nasra)

BIOGRAPHY:

On NoveOn November 22, 1963, when he was hardly past his first thousand days in office, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed by an assassin's bullets as his motorcade wound through Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was the youngest man elected President; he was the youngest to die.
Of Irish descent, he was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. Graduating from Harvard in 1940, he entered the Navy. In 1943, when his PT boat was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer, Kennedy, despite grave injuries, led the survivors through perilous waters to safety.
Back from the war, he became a Democratic Congressman from the Boston area, advancing in 1953 to the Senate. He married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953. In 1955, while recuperating from a back operation, he wrote Profiles in Courage, which won the Pulitzer Prize in history.

In 1956 Kennedy almost gained the Democratic nomination for Vice President, and four years later was a first-ballot nominee for President. Millions watched his television debates with the Republican candidate, Richard M. Nixon. Winning by a narrow margin in the popular vote, Kennedy became the first Roman Catholic President.
His Inaugural Address offered the memorable injunction: "Ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country." As President, he set out to redeem his campaign pledge to get America moving again. His economic programs launched the country on its longest sustained expansion since World War II; before his death, he laid plans for a massive assault on persisting pockets of privation and poverty.

The background of the speech :

The inauguration ceremony is a defining moment in a president career, and no one
knew this better than John F.Kennedy as he prepared four his own inauguration on jan 20.1961.
It was a particularly created piece of oratory that dramatically announced a generation change in the W.H and called on the nation to combat “tyranny, poverty, disease and war it self . John.F.Kennedy like Eisenhower, suggestions of money spent on modern weapons can be better utilized to solve social problems. The recommends that inspections and control of arms can be used to gain trust amng powerful nations. The realizes that this increased military production will not benefit the world in proposes.
Furthermore, the issues which concerned Kennedy were the (old war between U.S and the Soviet Union about the battle for supremancy in sporce in the minds of newly liberated nations, civil rights such as racial equality, and the humanity such as against porerty ,disease and threat to all humanity represented by the worlds nuclear arsenals.
The promotes communication as a root to problem-solving rather than the run of war “”ask not what or country can do for you.and ask what you can do for your country,
Because of those reasons he comes out with the speech that called the nation to be active citizens and fights against, tyranny, diseas and war.

Style of the speech:
IN my opining i think the speech of JOHN F.Kennedy is informative and persuasive speech because he likes Eisenhower, suggestions of money spent on modern weapons can be better utilized to solve social problems. The recommends that inspections and control of arms can be used to gain trust amng powerful nations. The realizes that this increased military production will not benefit the world in proposes.

MY OPINION ABOUT HIS PERSONALITY:

He was good man very strong he use to take care of the human rights and the peace in united state and some dreams the he hope to make it true and he didn’t want to war to happen ,that’s why the killed him his enemy ,and also he want it give good life to all the citizens in united state and equality between them .
He is one of the great men in the history of united start that we still remember all he works and lovely things to the country.

My Opinion:

My opinion about this group who give fully good job and was very interesting presentation and we get more knowledge about the topic that we didn’t had enough ideas and information also ,the way the collect the material from books, articals, case studies and internet was very successful and useful also ,that’s why I would like to thank each one of the members for their job and I hope we as the rest of the student get more knowledge and information and method from them and I will like to say all the best for them.

Hugo Chavez's speech!

Review on Hugo Chavez.

Hugo Chavez is a person who is very firmed and disciplined. This might happen because of the family background as well, whereby his father and mother were the ex school teachers. A brief background of Hugo Chavez, he was born on July 28th 1954 in Sabaneta, State of Barinas. He was later on continued his studies in Military Academy with a degree in Engineering in 1975. After he finished his degree, Hugo Chavez had furthered his masters in Political Science, but according to the head of the department in the university, Chavez didn’t finish up the master and the reasons why are still unknown until now.
In my opinion of this great leader, Hugo Chavez really is one outspoken person. He speaks when he knows that he is at the right path. He puts his people in his first list to give happiness to and really against the unjust and discrimination by the United States. This is the reason why he could simply call or label the U.S President, George W. Bush as the “devil” in his speech in front of the rest of the world. Hugo Chavez has been the President of Venezuela for almost 10 years till current.

Speech.

The speech basically talks about two major points that Hugo Chavez had highlighted. The first issue is about condemning George W. Bush, the President of United States while the second issue is about the United Nations. Regarding the first issue, Chavez had mentioned that George W. Bush was talking nonsense about peace to the world. Bush could only see everyone around the world as extremists and all the U.S wants is only wars, attack here and there – all for the sake of the people in that country, the Americans. In the second issue, Chavez had argued about the functions and purposes of the existence of United Nation (UN). He could see that United Nation doesn’t have any functions because it is controlled by the powerful United States.

The Second group - presented on Martin Luther King.

About the group who presented on Martin Luther King, they started with an excellent and creative introduction. The sketch had attracted the audiences to put their focus more and it was left to them to understand the messages behind the sketch. The basic idea of the acting parts from the members of the group – Nashrul, Soleha, Julida, Tasnim, Nasra, and Eyllia - was about the “white” and “black” groups’ differences and conflicts. The African American was being discriminated and called as slave by the white people. That was basically what Martin Luther King had experienced, and later he came out with the speech titled “I Have a Dream”. That speech had been acting out by two of our friends, Nashrul and Tasnim and they had done a great job. The voice thrown was very clear and they were energetic when giving out the speech. For the rest, they had delivered their points understandably and the message had reached the people’s hearts and mind.

About Group 3's Presentation..!!!!

Opinion on Group’s Presentation

The third group had presented about Hugo Chavez’s UN speech. I think it was a moderate presentation and maybe they could improve on in terms of making it more interesting instead of just presenting the content. However, I have no problem about the content. They had presented it in detail to make the audience understand about the topic..but for me, the most interesting part was by Ummi Khairani. Qistina and Miranti were also good enough because it was easy to understand them..and the rest...it was also okay actually. Overall, good presentation but still, several parts can be improved on. Good luck and hope u guys enjoy working in group..!!!

I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King

Opinion on background of the speech
I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King was a speech that being presented on “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” on 28th August 1963. In our opinion, the speech was able to bring significant because it was made in front of many Americans who attended the march.During the occasion,King talked about "I Have a Dream" speech in which he emphasized o the hopes on the Civil Rights movement in America during 1960s.
"I have a dream that this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident,that all men are created equal."..I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
We believe that the speech was strong enough to give impact to the audience. King talked his dream in a most diplomatic style without hurting any sides of people.

Speech Style
In our opinion, I Have a Dream can be categorized as an informative and persuasive speech. The great speech by King was remembered until today because it brings significant to the audiences. The speech talked about a person’s dream to establish justice in the world as well as to open people’s eyes on the unequal treatment towards African American during 1960s. King believed that everything was created equally and no one should be discriminated without reasons. Besides that, the speech also gives some form of inspiration because it leads to the change of behavior and emotion. King was able to influence people by the content of I Have a Dream Speech.

Opinion on the Particular Personality
Based on the speech, we believe that Martin Luther King possess great personality needs to a good leader. People tend to inspire on his words and thus they were willing to change their behavior and thought. Besides that, King was also a credible leader because he had courage to take action and made people believe in him. As a leader, King was really concerned to establish integrity among his people. What we inspired most was he used non-violent to grab people’s attention and thus changed their mentality.

Review on Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King was a famous civil rights, born in Atlanta, Georgia on 15th January 1929. His wife was a lady named Coretta Scott. King’s father and grandfather were both Baptist preachers, actively involved in the Civil Rights movement. King graduated from Morehouse College in 1948. After considering careers in medicine and law, he entered the ministry. While studying at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, he was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and Henry David Thoreau. King used to be a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama
There were several contributions contributed by Martin Luther King such as protest against bus segregation, influenced black students in a “student sit-in” from his book, “Stride Toward Freedom 1958”, freedom riders campaign, advocating non-violent student sit-ins and March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and so on.
Martin Luther King involved in many struggles in order to establish justice between black people and white people. He traveled the country making speeches and inspiring people to become involved in civil rights movement. He also urged economic boycotts. He argued that African American had also considerable economic power. King always stressed the importance of the ballot. He argued that all Americans had rights to involve in political force.

Sister Hatice.. (Qistina!)

Salam everyone..i know i've not been posting any posts lately..was so busy, fixing major emotional problems here and there. Hehe..and now i'm back!

Miss Hatice..talked about Sierra Leone. Well i dont know much about the country, but from what i've heard and learnt from the previous class and her presentations, i found out that the main factor that leads to the conflicts is the environmental issues. The majority of the people in that country is Muslims and one thing everyone should know about is, Sierra Leone is a very rich country, especially because of the diamonds. But yet, it has become the port for the West to get slaves from that country because they have been separated for a long time when the rebels try to fight for the environment.

For Hatice, the good points about her presentation are well-prepared and confident. As what our Madam had said over and over again, to gain the confidence is when you know that you are well-prepared. Both come together. She had made a good eye-contact and also face expressions. Unfortunately, the music that she put during her throughout her presentation was a bad idea. She could put it as the introduction, but not the whole presentation. She spoke too fast and read her long slides too much and lastly there was no ending of the presentation.

Well done Hatice, and we all wish you best of luck in your future undertakings! =)

Turkey & Miss Wahida (prepared by Soleha)

Salam… Welcome back with new spirit after several days mid-break..!!!!

Today’s informative speech was presented by sister Wan Wahida. She was talking about the Republic of Turkey. The capital city of Turkey is Ankara and most of the Turkish are Muslims. The first President of Turkey was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

As we all familiar with, the main issue in Turkey is about Islam and Secularism. Although there are many Muslims, Turkey is in conflict as the government practices secularism in governing its citizen. It is weird that even though Muslims are the majority, they are still fighting to practice their religion…and again…why this thing happens..?? It is because the elite and the non-elite established by previous pre-occupier.

A conflict that is still being debated in Turkey is about the issue of wearing scarf in public area. All students in government in schools and universities are forbids to wear scarf. The issue is still debated in order to protect the covered women’s to attend university.

In terms of the presentation, congrats Wahida..!! I liked your voice projection because it was very clear..and also your power point..it impressed me when you first started with it..it was simple but nice... However, I also suggest that you should minimize the slides text so that you can focus more on the audience. Next time avoid from reading too much from the slides yaa..?? Anyhow..congrats and good luck in whatever you do..!!!

THAILAND & MISS YAYA..!!! *SOLEHA*

Sawadikap… The only Thai word that I know..but still ok what..?? At least, I know a word rather than nothing at all.

Thailand as other countries around the world has faced some conflicts for several years. Since Thailand is not a Muslim country Muslim are the minority, they have been always receiving bad treatment from their government. In Thailand, army is more important than government. Therefore, most of the conflicts and issues in the country are connected with the armies. Several factors being highlighted in the presentation behind the ongoing violence are the economic, political, cultural ignorance, social, lack of training and rivalries.

However, in my opinion, many bad things are happening to Muslim society because we are not living within the Islamic social order. In addition, we are disunited people. We care less towards each other. As the consequences, it is easier for them to influence our thought and behavior.

Yaya…I just loved it!!! I like your presentation. For me, it was simple but smart. Of course..good introduction…you attracted audience by using music and I think that was very intelligence..!! Your presentation was understandable and smooth. Maybe you could improve on in terms of gesture because you just stand at one place without moving anywhere. Anyhow..well done yaya!!!

INDONESIA & MISS TASNIM..!! *soleha*

Republic of Indonesia located at Southern Asia. It is one of the neighbors of Malaysia. Sukarno, Suharto, Jusuh Habibi, Abdulrahman and Megawati were among Indonesia’s presidents. Currently, it is governed under Susilo. Basically, conflicts in Indonesia are scattered everywhere. What I mean here is each part of Indonesia has its own conflicts. Although the conflicts are not related to each other, it is actually somehow has some connections. Among the major issues in Indonesia were Bombing in Bali and Tsunami. There is also conflict between Indonesia and Malaysia in which they were fighting about the originality of “Rasa Sayang” song. However, it had been resolved with certain arguments among them.

Tasnim..for me, it was just a moderate presentation. She has strength in terms of language and of course it helps her a lot. In terms of the presentation itself, I was actually cannot really see the picture of Indonesia. Tasnim herself perhaps do not really understand about it. However, it was still good as she had prepared something for the class although it was not enough.. Anyhow, congratulations and good luck..!!!

Rwanda & Miss Qistina (Soleha)

Salam and hi to everyone..!!! I did not comment about the last two presentations yet because I was busy with my mid-term exam. Now..I am back..!!! Hehehe…

Republic of Rwanda was presented by Qistina on January 18, 08. Frankly speaking, I was actually never heard about the country before. It was great as Qistina managed to attract my attention although she looked nervous standing in front of the class. As we have been discussing a lot about Muslim countries, Rwanda presented by Qistina is not part of it as it is not a Muslim country. The major issue in Rwanda is about Hutus and Tutsi. They came from different origin at first but they are more or less at certain points.

Basically, the Hutus are the majority but they are being over powered by the Tutsi. This happens because Tutsi are the “elit” people in Rwanda. Due to the issue, it leads to the current situation in which they are a lot of orphans in Rwanda. It is happening because there are many rape cases in the country. Therefore, although we cannot directly help them, we should concern about their conditions.

In terms of the presentation, Qistina had presented it well..congrats yaaa..!!! However, I think you should be more prepared so that you will not nervous during the presentation. I admitted that you have a good command of language and it helps you a lot. What else to say..?? Hurmm..that’s all I guess... anyhow, good luck for the next presentation..!!!

Tasnim and Nadia! (Qistina..!)

Holla my lovely friends..How are u guys doing? Hope everybody's having their own sweet time this weekend! =)

Lets talk about Tasnim a.k.a "Groovy Tessie.."! 1st of all, let me tell u all one thing..she IS groovy..after known her for 2 years plus I believe, one thing obvious about her that I could say, she is friendly..The groovy nickname suits u girl! Your presentation..well, i couldnt comment much..but like what our madam said, we were putting high expectations on ur performance the other day. I dont know what had happened 2 u, what went wrong, but frankly speaking, I was expecting wayyyyyyyyyyy better than that hunn! Your english, superb! No doubt. One more thing, I could see that you had not prepared and gave your best. You kept looking on Lutfi alone, i guess because its his country. Well past is past. We're going 2 have more and more classes together, and I believe u'll give your best in future. Best of Luck sweetie!

Lets move on to Nadia, the sweet Singaporean friend of ours. Nadia or Yaya (is that how it spells like? sorry if im wrong..) was looking pretty on her presentation day. She always be. Nothin much to be talked about regarding her presentation last friday. No problem to understand her accent. I like her eye-contact, we could see that she was well-prepared. My favourite part was the last points-'factors behind the ongoing violence'..i've said this in class as well. She just put the 6 major factors, and she elaborated it with her own words. Why she could sound very confident? Again, because she got the whole picture about what she was going to talk about and she understood it. Me myself sometimes couldnt do that. Congrats again dear! Good Luck in whatever u're doing! =)

*Storage of Camping Gear*

One important part of properly caring for your gear is the way it is stored when not in use. So how do you store your gear properly? After using it, make sure you take care of it when you get back home.

Here are the tips...!!!!
1. Sleeping bags and tents: These you will want to store clean, dry, and loose. After making sure they are clean and dry, store them loosely in large laundry bags, rubbermaid tubs or something similar to them.

2. Self-inflating sleeping pads: After cleaning them, store them unrolled with the inflating valve open, under a bed is a good place to store these. If stored rolled up, it will collapse the foam inside of them and they will not inflate fully.

3. Stoves and lanterns: These should be stored clean and dry to prevent rusting and also with no fuel in the tanks so they did not get clogged up. Check to make sure the mantles on the lanterns are still in good shape so they will be ready for the next trip.

Kashmir & Iera by *soleha*

Kashmir was presented by Miranti Ningrum, an Indonesian girl in our class. Previously, Pakistan and India used to be one. This is because they have the same enemy, British. However, once they get independence, they cannot unite anymore. It happened because they realized that they have differences. They first went to war in October, 1947 after Pakistan supported a Muslim insurgency in Kashmir. After several years, the war ended on January 1, 1949. After 1949, there were also other issues and conflicts raised between the and even it still happens until today.

Back to the presenter, Miss Miranti…. As usual, even though you are nervous, you always look confidence…sometimes its “over confidence” also..hehehe..just joking!! I agree with Madam Shafizan that you had a good introduction. In terms of the presentation, you should avoid from reading the slides because once you started doing that, you will lost to establish eye contact with the audience. I also think that you could improve on in terms of answering questions. You should know more about Kashmir as you have quite enough time to do the preparation. Last but not least, you should minimize your non-word, “apa nie??” as it could distract your presentation. Before I forget, this time you did not use pink color as your slides background right..?? Hehehe.. Anyhow... congrats and good luck for the next presentation.

Miranti..! (from Qistina!)

Ppl..! I'm back! What do I have here? Lets just have a quick recall on Miranti a.k.a Ira's presentation last week..She'd done a good job..Well of course everyone did..! And SHOULD do..! I could see that she had all the points, she read lots of things about Kashmir..but unfortunately, she have put everything in her slides and it was too long. One more good thing about her, she could speak well. I mean, her english accent could be simply understood by people. But, she didn't use her strength there in answering questions. She could not answer few questions and asked for assistance from Julida. Anyways, again, she had done her best I believe..and all the best to you dear! =)

PAKISTAN & MISS JULIDA..!!! (Soleha)

Pakistan is another Islamic country that was presenting by Julida. Two major conflicts in Pakistan were Indo-Pakistani War and Bangladesh Liberation War. Indo-Pakistani war took place in 1947, a war between India and Pakistan over the region of Kashmir. on the other hand, Bangladesh Liberation War is a war between West Pakistan which is now the Pakistan itself and East Pakistan which is Bangladesh.

However, here I am quite interested in discussing the current issue in Pakistan which is "Benazir Assassination". as we all known, the tragic incident was happened on December 27, 2007 during at an election. She was shoot by gun twice by the suicide attacker.Due to the incident, her son Bilawal, 19 replace her position. there are many criticism about the replacement as Bilawal is too young to take over the position. people argue that he is not matured enough to involve in political field. as the election date has been postponed to February 14, 2008,Bilawal hopes for a fair election to satisfy people who support him.

Back to Julida..."the sweet2 face" in our class. Well done!!! Frankly speaking, for me, you did quite a good preparation for the presentation.Of course you have to do so as you have learn many things from the previous presentation right??? Well...It was good as I can catch your information. Good introduction also!!! I am interested to"join" you at first because you had attract me but suddenly your voice become slower and slower... By that time, I felt a bit lost as I cannot really hear your points...and also in terms of eye contact..maybe because you kind of memorizing, it's hard for you to establish eye contact. It always happened to me as well..hahaha.. Hope to see you improve on the next presentation.. We'll be in the same group right..?? let us do the "fantastic" presentation that can bombard the class..Good luck!!!

PALESTINE & MISS EYLLIA....(Soleha)

Palestine is not an independent state as it has never had sovereignty over any territory. They have been fighting for the sovereignty of their country for many years ago. Palestinians have been attacked by the Jews from Israeli as the Jews wanted to have the land. Palestine is not recognized by the United Nations, although the European Union, as well as the most member states. In my opinion, I also agree with some of the classmates that the war is not just about fighting over the land but it also has something to do with spiritual belief. As Muslims, Palestinians have strong belief that they will win in the war and the Jews also hold that they will be able to take the land at the end. Besides, the conflict never ended because as other Muslims countries, Palestine also faced the same problem with Muslims in their country itself, in which they are fighting with one another. Basically, this is the tactic used by them to manipulate Muslims so it is easier for them to get inside. Therefore, Muslims around the world should unite themselves rather than quarreling with each other.

Now…let us move to the presenter, a lady named Eyllia. First of all, thank you for presenting such informative information to us. I am not here to condemn you as I am also not that good in presentation. However, as a classmate, I think, there are several things that you could improve on and it is not just for you actually, it goes to me too..!!!
First, in terms of preparation. That was good that you had prepared a week before the presentation…but you know….sometimes it doesn’t enough as this is an informative speech. It seems like you do not know your points and that makes you nervous standing in front the class. Second, I terms of presenting the information. As Madam Shafizan has said, it was good to have “cards” to insist but you should avoid from reading the whole text as when you were doing so, you will lost to have interaction with the audience. Finally, in terms of gesture and eye contact. These can be avoided if good preparation has been done before the presentation.

Don’t worry Eyllia…there are always many things for us to improve on as we are in the process of learning. So…good luck for the next2 presentation. Wish me luck too..!

LANGUAGE (CONTINUE) -SOLEHA

On Friday class, January 4, 2004, before the presentation started, we had continued our lesson about “language”. Complexity of language also involves “slangs”, “metaphor”, “analogies”, “similies”, “perception” and “extent of language”

Slangs refer to words that have many meanings. People do not read about slangs in proper literature book but it is learned through daily lives. Among English slangs that frequently used are “hot”, “cool” and “too phat”. These three words are basically bringing the same meaning of interesting and attractive. Another slangs word is “bling2” and it is referred to accessories. As I am Malaysian, I also know several Malay words that are used in slangs. For example, “cun”, “kot”, “the tarik kau” and so on. Each of these words has its own meaning and it is understood by people although it is not mentioned in any dictionaries.

Metaphors, analogies and similies are quite same but they are also different at certain points. Metaphors are used when we are trying to explain something by using something else. However, similies are used when we want to put any relations to something that we are going to say. For example, “cars to men are as shopping to women.” In addition, expressions are words related to oral language. The example of expressions could be, “do you want me to lend a hand?” Other component of language that we had discussed is perception. As we know, different people have different perception. This happens because people see things through different ways. Therefore, in conveying message to others, a communicator must consider about the audience’s perception.

In language, it always has new words. As we had discussed, things from slangs maybe come out in dictionary as new words. The extent of language is also considered as complexity of language. For example, artificial language is language that is created to represent language that is used everyday such as JAVA language. Besides, another type of extent of language is specialized language such as Jargons. Jargons refer to language that is used by certain group of people.

Lebonan & Nasra (Soleha)

The country of Lebanon was presented by one of the International students in our class which is Nasra. Based on the presentation, Lebanon is a country located in Western Asia, west Mediterranean Sea, east and north Syria, south Israel. The capital city of the country is Beirut. Arabic is the official language in Lebanon and it follows by French and English. Most of them are Muslims but there are also some Christians and other religions that make the current population in 2007 estimated 4, 099, 000. Muslims in Lebanon are also separated because of different belief but it does not to the extent that leads to conflict between Muslims. It became an independence of Lebanon in November 22, 1943, released by French. The key issues and events in Lebanon are basically related with Israel. It was started since 1948 and it has not ended yet even until 2007.

Back to Nasra… Congrats as you had completed one of the presentations. Thank you also for sharing the informative information. It was nice to see you managed to present even though you cannot open your multimedia slides. It was same as me right..?? Hahaha… However, I also think that you could still improve on certain things. First, it was eye contact. Yes… I admitted that you had the eye contact but it was not enough yet. I feel like you just focus on certain area instead of looking at the whole classmates. Second, you could improve on in terms of voice. Actually, I cannot really hear what you said as it was not clear enough. Maybe you should speak louder in the next presentation so that it is easy for us to catch your words. Anyhow…well done and congrats again..!!!

GRADUATION SONG-VITAMIN C

And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we’re gonna be when we turn 25?
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same

But when we live this year we won’t be coming back
No more hanging out cause we’re on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don’t have another day
Cause we’re moving on and we can’t slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And I keep thinking of the night in June
I didn’t know much of love, but it came too soon

And there was me and you, and it got real blue
Stay at home talkn’ on the telephone and
We would get so excited, we’d get so scared
Laughing at ourselves thinking life’s not fair
And this is how it feels

(chorus)*As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change, from whatever
We will still be friend forever

So if we get big jobs and we make the big money
When we look back now, will that joke still be funny?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Can Heather find a job that won’t interfere with her tan?
I keep, I keep thinking it’s not goodbye
Keep on thinking it’s a time to fly
And this is how it feels

La, la, la, la: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
La, la, la, la; We will still be friends forever

Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there? Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it’s like we’re women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us around?
Will these memories fade when I leave this town?
I keep, I keep thinking that it’s not goodbye
Keep on thinking it’s a time to flY

LANGUAGE(SOLEHA)

On January 2, 08, we had learnt about language. As we are not an English student and due to time consuming, we cannot learn everything about language but we tried to understand the art of it. Language is symbols. Therefore, it can also represent gesture. Flow and confidence are important for person to be a good communicator. In my opinion, flow refers to the ability to talk continuously without stacking at any points and confidence means the ability to control your nervous while in public speaking.
Besides, we also learnt about the complexity of language. There are three main types of language which are “homonym”, “homophones” and “heteronym”. Mr. Lutfi..!!

Well done! Bravo! =) Obviously, Lutfi had done his best in his presentation last week. It was full of energy, he was very confident, and he 'bombarded' us with all of his knowledges about Sudan. I could see that everyone was impressed and satisfied with your preparations. BUT! Lutfi, there are still few things that you could improve on. First, your eye-contact. ( well I'm not trying to follow madam's point! ). Focus more on your audience. Second, your body gesture. Me and my other groupmates think that you didnt really use it to the fullest in pointing out your points. Whatever it is, congrats again and hope you wll be better and better in your next next presentations! =) *Qistina*
